Castletownbere Community Centre

The proposed community centre in Castletownbere incorporates multisensory design principles by creating a dynamic and ever-changing environment that caters to the unique needs of the fishing community and provides a comprehensive and inclusive experience for all who visit. The folded origami-style roof contributes to the soothing atmosphere of the building and provides a unique visual appeal. The roof’s colours, influenced by plastic waste generated by the fishing industry, serve as a reflection of the harm this industry causes to the ocean and underscore the significance of cleaning up our seas. By using recycled plastic to create new construction materials and generating a platform of awareness for the community of Castletownbere, the project promotes sustainable design and recycling practices through a multisensory experience that engages visitors visually and emotionally.
